Each team has two cars and so two drivers.
- Michael Schumacher
Current World Champion, and Champion in 1994,1995,2000 &
2001. Always near the front and close to the action. Michael
broke many records in 2001, but is still keen to retain
his F1 crown for a fifth time. Will he do it? Watch this
space.
- David Coulthard
Scotland's chance for the F1 Driver's championship. Second
place in the 2001 driver's championship, he will want to
be closer to Michael in 2002. Has he missed his oppurtunity,
with so many newer younger guys on the grid?
- Rubens
Barrichello Rubens again drives for Ferrari this season.
The experienced Brazilian will want to be out of Michael's
shadow soon. In 2002, will he show he is the man for a Ferrari
futuire, or will 2002 see Rubens' last season for them.
- Eddie Irvine
drives with Jaguar Racing. This lively Irishman always speaks
his mind. Will this be his last season in F1. Outspoken
in 2001, will Jaguar require his services after 2002?
- Heinz Harald
Frentzen Is he the gypsy of F1, now with Arrows. Former
Jordan/Prost driver, whose future in F1 is unsure. Maybe
he has his best season in 1999, can he find a team he is
happy in?
- Jarno Trulli
leaves Jordan to join Renault (fomerly Benetton). 2001 was
a season of "what might have been", with lots
of high grid positions in qualifying, but failures in the
races themselves.
- Giancarlo
Fisichella Former Benetton Driver, now joins Jordan.
He will want to show he has what its made of. Jordan appear
to need him, almost as much as he needs them. With a rookie
team mate, Sato, his skills will be called upon to lift
Jordan up in the championship.
- Ralf Schumacher
Driver for Williams and Michael's younger brother. Ralf's
team mate, Montoya , will push him to the limit. In a sport
where you are compared to your team mate first, Ralf may
find himself left behind. If so, where does he go? Surely
a drive at Ferrari is out of the question?
- Juan Pablo Montoya.
Former CART Series champion, in 2000, he drove for Williams
in 2001 and proved he has what it takes. Already a winner
in his first year of F1, and proving he is no respector
of the old guard (who will forget his moves on MS in 2001),
he will want to prove he is the heir apparent, if not the
heir. However can Williams and BMW give him the reliabilty
he needs to take him to higher things? There is even talk
of him moving to Ferrari! Are they serious?
- Jacques Villeneuve
Former Indy Car Champion, he has been F1 Champion in 1997.
Jacques will see his days with BAR need to be more productive
in 2002. As his friend, Craig Pollock goes, maybe this season
will see him bow out of F1?
- Pedro de la Rosa
Jaguar driver. Will want a good season in 2002, or he may
find himself back with the test drivers.
- Jensen
Button produced an outstanding first season in 2000.
Moving to Benetton, his lacklustre season may have stiffened
his resolve. With still one more season at Renault, before
Sir Frank Williams' option to take him back is finalised,
he will want to do better than 2001. His new team mate,
Jarno Trulli may however be out to prove Jensen isn't F1
material, after a series of incidents between the two in
2001, in rival teams. Check out his website, but have
your speakers on.
- Oliver Panis.
BAR driver for 2002, as well as 2001. Returns to the main
F1 field after test driving for Mclaren for a year. Previously
a Prost driver, Oliver should be a good team mate to Jacques
Villeneuve. Though he will be looking for BAR to give him
the package to do the job in hand.
- Kimi Raikkonen
A new driver in 2001, he claimed the Mclaren drive as his
own, in his first F1 season. With DC as his team mate, now
is the chance for him to make an impression on the podium.
Though in 2002, he must prove he has what it takes. Mika
is just on a "short holiday" and may want that
seat back in 2003.
- Nick Heldfield
was one of Sauber's stars in 2001. he thought he should
have had the Mclaren driver, but former team mate Kimi beat
him to it. Driving for Sauber in 2002, He will want to show
that he is really the man.
- Felipe Massa
joins Sauber. As a new boy on the grid, will he be able
to emulate Kimi Raikkonen in 2002.
- Takuma
Sato, Jordan's new Japanese driver for 2002. British
Formula 3 Champion, EJ hopes he can provide the goods. Honda
hope so too.
- Enrique Bernoldi
will want to be moving up the grid in 2002, after his debut
2001 season with Arrows.
- Alex Yoong Minardi
driver, who will want to push things after his debut in
2001. if he can get in some good places, then possibly moving
up to the middle order teams.
- Mark Webber
New Minardi driver, and new to F1. Will need to show he
has what it takes in this first season. The next "Jensen"
maybe? (Aussie scores two points on his debut & home
GP can't be too bad - March 3, 2002)
- Miks Salo makes
his return to F1 after a year out. Not that he has been
sleeping in. Oh no, he is the star of a new team in F1,
Toyota. As their test driver all last year, his the one
of the developing hands in this new team. How tough will
it be for him and Toyota. Only time will tell.
- Alan McNish
starts his debut season with a debut team. Alan is a class
driver, and the competitive streak isn't in question. What
maybe be, is a new driver in a brand new team. A hard start,
with lots ot prove, can Alan pull it off?
